From the Desk of the Director

January 14, 2019

In October, I was announced as the new Executive Director of the American Society of Administrative Professionals. I could not be more thrilled to be in this position.

I was happy to be able to attend the 2018 APC and EA Summit and was so impressed with the caliber of the admins and assistants who contribute so much to their organizations.  I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you what I learned from watching you:

  1. You are dedicated. You are dedicated to the success of your organization, to your colleagues and to the advancement of the profession. You are committed to going above and beyond, even when it is hard or goes unnoticed.

  2. You are passionate. Your passion to advance, become better, be stronger was inspiring to me and to the community around you.

  3. You are engaged. To be as effective in your job as you are, I know you are highly engaged but… the atmosphere at the event was awesome. From the keynotes to the breakouts and yes, to the party, YOU are what make your community great.

It was an awesome experience and I am looking forward to spending more time getting to know you this year. I would love to tell you a little about myself so you get to know me, too.

I was born in New Hampshire but grew up in a small town in Maine. My education was a beautiful mix of public, private and home school – all of which I loved. Family was at my center and even more so when I was diagnosed with T-Cell ALL Leukemia as a sophomore in high school.  Life as we knew it, changed. It was a long journey and one I will share more about as we get to know each other, but I learned life is precious.

With a new perspective, I headed to college at a small university in Tennessee. After graduating, I landed my first job as a marketing admin for events. I threw myself into it, soaking up every bit of knowledge I could. I loved working on events. All the thousands of details leading up to that one day. No pressure, right? The excitement and stress are exhilarating! Over the years I have managed several events for different audiences – all with different needs for gathering together.

My goal in this new and exciting role is to be the best advocate for you that I can be. I want to understand your issues, challenges and goals so that we can work together to find the solutions.

I will need your help. This year I will be listening and learning from you. Who knows, you may even get a visit! Please reach out to me anytime with ideas, suggestions or just to say hi. I look forward to getting to know you!
