Mark Twain once wrote in a letter, “The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter—it’s the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.” He was right. It can be hard to find just the right words under ordinary circumstances; under extraordinary circumstances it’s even harder. We’ve all said the wrong thing on occasion and soon realized it could have been said more tactfully, but it’s like trying to un-ring a bell.
