The Hiring Process In 2022

The landscape of job hunting has taken a drastic change in the past twenty years. Long gone are the days of “hitting the ground and putting in paper applications.” Nearly all applications at this point in time are done digitally and remotely. Most employers will even deny looking at someone’s resume if they bring it on paper unless instructed otherwise. Even more important than ever is professional networking and maintaining a stellar online profile that accurately displays everything you have to offer a new job.

With these changes in the application process, there has been an equal shift in the hiring process. Screening resumes online, setting up digital hiring software, and hosting video interviews are a few of the changes you can expect when going into the job hunt in 2022. Let’s take a deeper look at how each of these changes has changed the overall hiring process of the modern-day.

Professional Networking

Sometimes it’s all about who you know. Networking has been an important aspect of job finding since jobs have been a thing. Most new opportunities are heard by word of mouth through either a friend or relative. Now that the world has taken such a shift towards everything being online, networking has become easier than ever.

Most think of social media as being something for fun or entertainment. In the professional world, it can be used for a completely different purpose. Take a look at LinkedIn for example. LinkedIn has been a growing hub of online professional networking for years. Employers are known for scanning these profiles regularly as it is the easiest way to scout for talent with the ease of a click on their phone. Social media is now a tool for self-promotion. Don’t hesitate to spruce up your profiles.

Virtual Hiring

Outside of self-promotion and applications, the hiring and interview process has changed completely. The Covid Pandemic at the beginning of 2020 brought with it some rough times for people around the world. Amidst the chaos was also a new outlook on how our work lives can function.

The remote worker has now become the new norm, and video contact has become more necessary than ever. With these shifts, we see the normalization of virtual hiring. Interviews are now typically conducted over webcam through meeting software such as Skype, Google Hangouts, and the now massively popular Zoom. Be prepared to keep a nice background somewhere in your home. Your next interview might be in your comfy pants.

Hiring Events

Job fairs aren’t a thing of the past. On the contrary, they’ve become much easier to schedule and facilitate with the emphasis on digital communications. Group hiring events hosted on virtual communication platforms have become more common than ever. It is easier on everyone’s schedules as it gets rid of the concern for transport. It also allows everyone to attend from the comfort of their own home.

Much of the hardest part of the job process is a bit of nervousness from both the applicant and the interviewer. It’s an entirely fresh social interaction with a lot of weight resting on the outcome. Everyone can keep their nerves at bay by having the comfort of home at their side at all times.

The More Resources the Merrier
