The job of an administrative assistant can be unique and varied. The responsibility of an admin assistant is to cater to the organizational, administrative, and clerical needs of the organization, and no matter what product, service, or experience you’re marketing or providing, there are rules, paperwork, and red tape to navigate, and administrative assistants are the brave navigators that can get us where we need to go.

It’s not just going to get coffee, making copies, or sending emails. There are several different types of admin assistants and clerks in all different fields, including data entry, accounting, bookkeeping, medical assistants, editorial assistants, and more!

Do I Need a Medical Administrative Assistant Certificate?

The short answer is “No”. The longer answer is “No, but…”

Getting an Administrative Assistant Certificate is for the most part not required in order to hold an administration position, but, like many job-related certifications, getting certified could improve your career prospects, potential pay, and promotion opportunities. All sorts of organizations need administrative support, often in different departments too!

If you’re having a hard time getting hired in an administrative assistant position, feel that you have missing relevant experience for the job, or want to improve your literacy in certain technologies, getting your CAA is a great option.

How Do I Get an Administrative Support in Acquiring My Certificate?

Administrative jobs tend to be industry-specific and higher-sensitivity, but having a general understanding of different organization skills and technology literacy is a great base for any admin job. 

The National Career Certification Board (NCCB) offers eight different administration certifications, with categories including general administrative skills to project management, payroll, human resources, and more. Most of these tests can be taken online and while some have prerequisites, prior experience in certain areas can count towards college credit. 

What Kind of Jobs Can I Get With an Administrative Assistant Certificate?

Every industry needs people who know how to handle the red tape, keep things organized with an attention to detail that is meticulous and thorough. And when I say every, I mean EVERY.

There are administrative jobs in veterinary care, radiology, public relations, social media, and more, but still more areas all need bookkeeping, data entry clerks, human resources administration, personal assistants, talent acquisition, and so much more.
