By the final morning of EA Ignite in Boston, attendees had spent days immersed in leadership/strategic development, AI conversations, and professional growth. The pace had been fast, the learning constant, and for many administrative professionals in the room, the experience felt both energizing and overwhelming at the same time.
That was exactly why Concetta Green chose to slow things down.
Closing out the conference on its final day, Green opened her keynote by acknowledging the emotional and mental exhaustion many attendees were likely carrying after several days of nonstop learning and stimulation.
“All week you’ve been down here doing tactical work, building foundations for the business,” Green told attendees. “This moment is just for you.”
What followed was less of a traditional keynote and more of a deeply personal conversation about burnout, self-worth, wellness, and the pressure many professionals feel to constantly prove their value in an increasingly technology-driven world.
The Cost of Constantly Proving Yourself
Throughout the session, Green returned repeatedly to the idea that administrative professionals often spend so much time supporting everyone around them that they stop paying attention to themselves.
At one point, she shared a deeply personal story about reaching a breaking point after years of burnout and overwork. While outwardly appearing successful, Green explained that behind the scenes she was physically and emotionally exhausted, eventually requiring a five-month medical leave after serious health complications forced her to step away from work entirely.
“I was too busy being the person behind the person,” she said.
As she spoke candidly about losing herself beneath constant responsibility, the room grew noticeably quieter. Many attendees appeared emotional as Green described the experience of becoming disconnected from her own needs while prioritizing everyone else’s.
“When you spend more time being unseen, you stop seeing yourself as you are,” Green said.
The message resonated deeply with an audience made up of professionals who are often expected to anticipate needs, solve problems, and remain composed no matter how much pressure they carry themselves.
“You Always Have a Choice”
While the keynote acknowledged the realities of burnout and exhaustion, Green’s message ultimately centered on self-awareness and the possibility of change.
During one of the session’s most reflective moments, attendees were asked to pause and consider where their energy was actually going, what was draining them, and whether the pace they were maintaining was sustainable.
“What if that red blinking light, that nagging sensation… is a signal?” Green asked attendees.
Throughout the keynote, she encouraged attendees to rethink the belief that their value is tied only to productivity or constant availability. Instead, Green emphasized the importance of boundaries, wellness, rest, and reconnecting with the person underneath the professional role.
“You always have a choice,” she reminded the audience repeatedly.
Green also introduced a practical framework for managing stress by separating situations into three categories: control, influence, and concern. The exercise challenged attendees to stop exhausting themselves trying to control situations that ultimately fall outside their responsibility.
Remembering the Value of Being Human
Although AI and technology appeared throughout the conversation, Green framed them less as threats and more as reminders of what makes human connection irreplaceable.
In one of the keynote’s most memorable moments, she reflected on the growing anxiety many professionals feel around automation and changing workplace expectations before offering a more human-centric perspective:
“AI is intelligence that’s artificial,” Green said. “You are the prototype.”
Rather than encouraging attendees to work harder or prove themselves more aggressively, Green challenged them to reconnect with their humanity, creativity, intuition, and sense of self outside of work.
As the keynote came to a close, attendees stood together repeating one final affirmation led by Green:
“I am whole, resourceful, full of power, and complete.”
