Why You Must Always Celebrate Success

You’ve learned a new skill; landed a new client; accomplished a goal that you thought was unachievable; or just gotten through a really rough time at work. What’s the most important thing that you can do now? Celebrate!

Recognizing and celebrating our successes helps us to keep on keeping on, and to foster personal growth. It can lift our spirits and our enthusiasm for what we do. Best of all, it can make us feel good about ourselves, boost our happiness, and bolster our self-esteem. 
Don’t wait for others to step forward to acknowledge your success; you have the ability to reward yourself—right away—for a job well done.
Here are some wonderful ways to celebrate your accomplishments, large and small: 

• Take a well-earned day off. Attaining a goal takes hard work and perseverance. Give yourself a day to relax and savor what you’ve achieved.
• Post about your achievement on Facebook, and/or blog or Tweet about it. Then enjoy the wonderful feedback and praise you’re sure to receive from friends, family, and co-workers.
• See a movie or attend a play that will make you laugh, make you cry, or inspire you.
• Thank anyone who helped to make your success a reality. They’ll appreciate the acknowledgement and you’ll feel even better about yourself and about those who’ve cheered you on.  
• Have lunch with someone whom you’ve been too busy to meet with—because you’ve been working so hard.
• Get a massage…Sleep in…Step out!

Your celebration could also include Champagne and caviar. But a quiet cup of coffee or a walk in nature might prove just as satisfying. Of course, if you’ve been offered a new job or a promotion, you might want to celebrate in a bigger way: with an exotic trip, concert tickets, or a very special meal out.

Whatever reward you choose, it should reinforce your good feeling about how well you’ve done and make you feel proud of yourself. And that should give you the wherewithal that you need to accomplish even bigger and better things in the future.
